find more time moms stop

  1. Stop telling yourself that you don’t have time.

If you tell yourself you have too much to do and not enough time to do it, then that’s the way it’s gonna be. Stop the sabotage and find more time.

  1. Everyone has 10 minutes. Find more time in that space.

I hear you. You are going over your to-do list, which is forever growing. You never get to the bottom of the laundry pile. You don’t even know what’s lurking at the bottom of your sink. If you had 10 minutes, you might actually have taken a shower today.

I’ve been there. I’ve run a kid’s playspace and a coaching business while having two of the craziest kids in town and trying to focus on eating healthy and making time for the hubs. If I actually KEPT a to-do list of projects {my planning system is a little different than a simple task list}, I’d always feel like I was 1,532 minutes behind.

But everyone has 10 minutes. These 10 minutes are for YOU. What would you LOVE to get out of your day for yourself? A DIY pedicure? A shower? An mini-yoga session? Some quiet space to breathe and clear your mind?

Take it. After the kids go to bed. Before they get up. During the nap. Put aside the to-dos and do something just for you for 10 minutes. No more, no less. {Do NOT let this become time to fold the laundry, unless that totally excites your soul.}

  1. Get your tasks done in 2 minutes.

All that stuff that IS on your to-do list? Tackle it. Find more time two minutes at a time. Here are some examples.

  • Wash off the kitchen table as you breeze through to get your kid some milk.
  • Tug the comforter up to the pillows as you walk through your room to open the window.
  • Run back inside to put away the dirty dishes after you’ve buckled your kids in the car (not when it’s too hot, too cold, or unsafe, of course).
  • Take 5 things out of the dryer, fold them right then and there, and stick them in your drawers.
  • Waiting for the water to boil? Throw some snacks in the lunchbox for tomorrow.

  1. Release meaningless “supposed to’s.”

I had a friend who was totally stressed out. She was telling me about her busy days, during which she doesn’t even have 10 minutes for herself. She was saying how every night, she has to pick up the kids, get home, make dinner, give the kids a bath, read them a story, and put them to bed. It was overwhelming to try to do this all in the span of just two hours.

I asked her a question that changed her life: “Why do you bathe them every day?”

She replied: “I don’t know… aren’t I supposed to?”

I answered her: “I don’t know. I’m pretty sure there are no hard-and-fast rules. And if I’m really being honest, I only bathe my kids once or twice a week, and they don’t really stink all that much.”

A week later, my friend was telling me how her life was transformed now that she didn’t have to spend at least 30 minutes prepping and bathing her kids every day.

  1. Just for a moment, let’s be still.

Do you ever notice how you can’t stop your brain when you’re trying to go to sleep at night or driving in your car? So you get up or get home and pull out a notebook (or your to-do-list) to write everything down, and the second you put pen to paper, you can’t even remember what you wanted to write?

As much as it doesn’t feel like this is true, shit happens when you’re still. Trust in that. Your life isn’t going to change whether you cross everything off of your to-do list or not. But your life may change if you have more moments of stillness.

This is my favorite song lately. Click here for a link to the song on YouTube for inspiration.

I actually can’t even listen to this without just closing my eyes and doing nothing. Try it. {Maybe during your newly found 10 minutes}.

With all your newly found time, send this to someone who needs to find more time in her life.
